COVID-19 RESPONSE

In Response to the CDC’s request to cancel gatherings of fifty or more people (now 10), we are making the difficult decision to honor that request and suspend in-person worship services beginning March 22nd. Trust me when I say that this has been a very tough and heart breaking decision. However, I have said many times that at First United Methodist Church we don’t just go to church, we ARE the church. As I met with some of our staff over the last few days, we have prayerfully discerned that although we will develop alternative worship opportunities in the face of COVID-19, we will continue to BE THE CHURCH!

The following is our worship and outreach strategy to BE THE CHURCH at this time:

Worship: We are preparing video worship for Sunday mornings that will be available on YouTube, Facebook, our website, and sent via email to our members.

Dinner Church: We will prepare brown bag dinners for people to pick up at the church on Wednesdays from 5:30pm-6:30pm. We will also pray with those in need of prayer.

BE THE CHURCH: We recognize that there is a vulnerable population in Victoria that may need assistance with basic necessities. We have set up a hotline for people to call (979) 999-1231 Please leave your name, telephone number, and reason for your call. We will return your call and do our best to help accommodate your need.

Also, since we will not be physically gathering as a church, we are developing a system in which we can keep in touch with each other. We want everyone to continue to be connected to Christ’s holy church.

If you are not part of the most vulnerable population, and would like to help BE THE CHURCH as we respond to COVID-19 by mobilizing to help the most vulnerable, please contact the church office at bridgefumc@gmail.com. Also, even if you are part of the vulnerable population but want to help from home in our organization efforts or can help make and return phone calls, please let us know.

There may be some bugs in our system as we figure out how to organize and be of help, but we are committed to BE THE CHURCH and work the “bugs” out as we go.

Blessings,

Pastor Wade
