Just For You.....
Shields Elementary Giving Tree
It’s almost time for Christmas!! For the past three years, the members of this church have managed to put a big smile on the face of every single child at school. Every. Single. Child. Seeing the joy on their faces each year as Santa and his Elf deliver the gifts and the never ending supply of love from FUMC is priceless. Please plan to continue this joyful tradition. Gift tags for each child will be placed in a basket for you to select from. One side of the gift tag will have the child’s name, the other side will have the teacher, grade level and gender. Gifts should range from $5 to $10. Once you’ve picked your gift, please wrap it and return to the church with the child’s gift tag attached. The giving tree will be available in the Crossroads and at Methodist Day School. Don’t have time to shop? The School Ministry Committee can shop for you if you would rather make a donation! Deadline for gifts is December 13!
Shields Elementary Christmas Store
As adults, we all know it’s better to give than receive! So, we are opening up the Christmas Store at Shields Elementary on Thursday and Friday, December 12th and 13th. Each student will receive 2 tickets to “purchase” gifts for two important people in their life. If you have items you would like to donate for the store (think re-gifting opportunity!), please drop them off at the Welcome Center by December 3rd. Volunteers are also needed to work at the store. You will be helping the children pick out their items and wrapping up their gifts for them to take home. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Linda Reeder so she can add you to our list!
Help our Shields Students Succeed
Reading is the single most important aspect of a child’s education. If a child struggles with reading, it has been proven that they will struggle in every subject. It is imperative that elementary students have strong reading skills so that they can excel each year. Many of our students at Shields are far below their grade level in reading. One way you can help is to volunteer to be a reader at Shields Elementary. Reading partners either read to students or listen to them read. It doesn’t take much time, but the impact is huge. All volunteers must sign up at https://www.visd.net/apps/pages/volunteer
