August is the month when students, teachers, parents and families prepare for school. This is a time of anticipation, renewal and perhaps a bit of stress. There may be new friends, new teachers and for some, a new school.
       If a teacher asks a question to which you know the answer, you might raise your hand thinking, “I know!  I know that answer!” It’s a wonderful feeling to know the correct answer.
       In Matthew’s gospel (16:15-16) Jesus asked his disciples the question, “Who do men say that I am?” The disciples answered, “Some say John the Baptist...others Elijah...and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” When Jesus pressed the question, “Who do you say I am” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
       The disciples learned an important lesson that day. Today many people in the world do not know who Jesus is. May we always be ready to answer, “Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
       As you transition from summer time to school time, may you grow in the image of Jesus Christ and live in His love.
